The very first guitar I started building from scratch, DG001, was a Treblemaker, I just didn’t realise it back then. It was called “Fried Green Tomatoes At The Humbucker Café”, and it was built as a custom order for a close friend (and band mate). I think it’s the most fun I’ve ever had building a guitar, the gorgeous walnut body was such a joy to work.
I’ve now realised that it is something fairly special, and am currently building two more.
The Treblemaker is a three-pickup guitar (hence the ‘treble’) with a 5-way pickup switch that is based around a Telecaster Thinline-style chambered or semi-hollow body, with a Bigsby tremolo. Fender build one of these of their own, as part of their ‘Parallel Universe’ range – they call it ‘the Troublemaker’, and it only comes in black with gold hardware. Personally, I’m not a fan of gold hardware, and if you aren’t either, or if you can only run to about half of the Fender’s £2,300 price tag (mine start at £1,499), then buy one of these.
