If you’re looking at this post, it might be because you’ve just picked up one of Elle’s Guitars and are curious what it’s all about.
Elle’s Guitars are pre-loved guitars that have been given a new lease of life including a little bit of new unique character. These are then donated to associations, schools and music teachers to be given to young people who would love to play the guitar but cannot justify the expense.
Elle Holmes was a bright, beautiful and talented girl who lost her battle, against what she felt was a cruel world, at the age of just 15. In her memory, her mum and friends are finding broken and damaged secondhand guitars and giving them a Derelict Guitars makeover. As befits Elle, I’ve been deliberately trying to make every Elle’s Guitar I send out quirky, original, one-of-a-kind and full of character. It’s not good enough to simply be playable, it’s got to have attitude. You can tell an Elle’s Guitar by the big black butterfly on the back!
So far seven have gone out, and this page will be regularly updated with new information about the stories of these guitars – if you are a recipient of an Elle’s Guitar then email me here or to info@derelictguitars.com to have your story posted here for others to see. You may just inspire someone to become a rock star! Elles01 is this Epiphone Les Paul that has been sent out to the YMCA Derby.
Elles02 is this electro-acoustic that has gone to Our Lady and Saint Philomena School in Liverpool 9.
Elles 03 is this mad dusky pink Stratocaster with a Bigsby Tremolo, also at a school in Liverpool.
Elles 04 is this Stratocaster, which went to Burscough Academy.
Elles 05 is this silver-sparkle Telecaster, which is earmarked for a school in Widnes.
Elles 06 is a black Les Paul that is being worked on at the moment, and Elles 07 is a black Telecaster that we’ve only just been donated (February 2023).
There’s some big news coming up for Elle’s Guitars in 2023 – including the launch of the charity in Kenya, giving instruments to children who have zero hope of access otherwise.
