Because I build them from scratch Originals can be any model you desire. There are four models that I tend to gravitate to – three that I just happen to prefer building, and one that is exclusively unique to me, but if your project is outside of these – ask away!
My preferred body types are the Gibson Les Paul-style, Gibson Firebird-style and the Fender Telecaster-style. Most of the Signature models I build and sell will typically be some slight variation on one of these three themes, including semi-acoustic and semi-hollow versions of all three.
My own unique design is called “The Exbird”. It is sort of halfway between a Gibson Firebird and a Gibson Explorer, and it came about solely because my old scroll saw jammed and then slipped while trying to cut a Firebird-style body, resulting in a gentle curve becoming a slightly straighter line than intended. I continued on with the build anyway, slightly reconfiguring the entire body to take the error into account, and discovered that I loved it.
In late 2021 I am currently working on my third Exbird. Because I typically (thus far) use Firebird-style electronics, the most usual configuration is two humbucker-sized p’ups, typically either Seymour Duncan Antiquity chrome humbuckers, Seymour Duncan Phatcat P90 p’ups or Gretsch Filter’tron p’ups. The long body also makes it an ideal candidate for Bigsby-style tremolos.
