DG014, aka “Fantastic Beats and Where To Barn-Find Them” is a semi-acoustic barncaster made largely from a piece of European oak that was once a French fireplace mantel, with a pearwood top that features Ovation-style ‘spider eye’ sound holes.
Due to the weight of the oak, the guitar is so heavily chambered (hollowed out) that it is practically an acoustic, and indeed has an internal piezo microphone (like an electro-acoustic) in the neck position. The eccentricities of very aged oak (it doesn’t like to be sanded) mean that it has something of a rough-hewn appearance in places, but then it is a Derelict barncaster! Finished in a black sparkle powdercoat, the neck has vine motif inlays, and locking tuners, and the engraved Telecaster hardware features turquoise knobs to match the turquoise pearl purfling and cutdown pickguard.
It’ll be a bit of a wrench to sell this, because it has, honestly, an amazingly lovely tone and a very unique look, and is now (because it is so hollow) so light that it would be an easy play for a youngster. £150 to a good home only.
